I need to restart a channel initiator on a windows queue manager (version 6.0.2.2)
Is it possible to do this without bouncing the queue manager and setting the initiator to auto?
When i try and restart it using "start chinit" it starts but then stops as soon as i sign off the box.....
Is it possible to directly start it as a different user to the one i am signed in as using amqmdmain?
Has anyone any other ideas?
Thanks in advance..... |

Start it thru the MQExplorer GUI. And set it to start up when the QM starts up, again thru the MQExplorer GUI. _________________ Peter Potkay

Thanks Pete,
How can i start the channel initiator from explorer? It know you can set it to start automatcially or manually but i can't see how to explicitly start it from the explorer.....
Can you point me in the right direction? |

OH! I see what you mean! In 5.3. you could do this in MQExplorer but I don't see how to do it in 6.0. Start the command server is an option, but nothing for the channel init. WTF? _________________ Peter Potkay

amqmdain is likely the best course here. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

To define, start, and delete a service that uses MQSC to start the chinit? ...

You would think the MQ gods would have given the amqmdain command a switch to handle the Channel Init directly. Same for the command server, but at least the MQExplorr GUI allows you to manually start up the command server under the QM's ID.
There definitly seems to be a hole in functionality here.
Using amqmdain to start a service to just pass a start command to the channel init is hokey. _________________ Peter Potkay

I agree it's hokey - it was my last ditch effort to recover from the fact that I hadn't double-checked the documentation before I posted...
It's not entirely clear why the chinit shuts down when the user logs off, if it's started from MQSC. The MQSC command should be sufficient to get it started by the MUSR_MQADMIN user, which is not the one that has logged off.
Of course, it's not entirely clear why the chinit is not starting up automatically, either. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I suspect because the Channel Initiator was set to Manual in MQExplorer the last time the QM was started. I have a step in my MQ migration plan to check what the Channel Init and Command Server are set to after an upgrade. Every so often a QM would have these set to Manual after an upgrade even though there were set to Automatic when they were 5.3. _________________ Peter Potkay

Well.
The chinit wouldn't have started at qmgr startup then, and that should have been noticed during the same maintenance window - so it should be entirely possible to flip the setting to Automatic and restart the qmgr... without requiring additional change control _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
