Good morning
We are planning to upgrade our mq 5.3 to V6. In order to grant compatibility with older application, we need to keep a couple of client machine with mq 5.1; does anybody know if mq 5.1 can work with mq 6.0?
Thanks for you help

back level clients should be able to work with 6.0, even those as back level as 5.1, which went out of service years ago.
What is preventing you from upgrading those clients to 6.0? Clients are free to download. _________________ MQSeries.net helps those who help themselves.. |

The search button will be your friend here - I remember this being asked before.
IIRC the consensus was that a v5.1 client ought to work with a v6 queue manager but is certainly an unsupported configuration. In your position I'd wonder aloud why the v5.1 client was still in use and what was "bad" about the v5.3 client that this application couldn't use it. I certainly can't think of a compelling reason, and whichever way it goes you should push for the upgraded client asap.
If you've got a v5.1 queue manager somewhere that this application is clienting onto upgrade now. Not later but now. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

My guess is other programs on the box using MQ have OS upgrade incompatibilities. As such the box does not fulfill the minimum OS criteria for running a 5.3 / 6.0 qmgr or client.
My advice is if the other application is so mission critical it should have been either rewritten or upgraded to the new hardware...
If it ain't broken don't fix it will not work here because the fix it if there is a problem on MQ is UPGRADE... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
