Scenario:
Installed WMQ 6 (and then RP 6.0.2.0) as is on a Chinese MS Windows Server 2003 SP 2.
Queue manager got CCSID 1381 (PC Simplified Chinese Mixed) which caused failure when trying to connect via my own MQ Explorer due to ccsid incompabilities. Change queue manager to an english ccsid and that works.

Running amqmdain gives Chines characters.
Usage: (on my local WMQ)
<undisplayable chinese characters> (on the Chinese WMQ)

However the queuemanager produces FDC due to xecX_E_CONV_NOT_SUP between 1252 and 1381
Code:
(edited):message information:
Cat CCSID 1252, user CCSID 1381, message  ID '00006994'X

Found this in an older post with a reply from Tibor quite some time ago:

The solution was a system environment variable MQS_FORCE_NTLANGID: "It's because when MQ retrieve language from regional settings, windows api return language of last logged on user. IBM provide a solution to force the language of log files : Create an environment variable MQS_FORCE_NTLANGID and set it to value 1033 (1033 is for English)."

I've tried this workaround and it does not make a difference. Only works for 5.3?

The only way I can think of right now is to uninstall and then reinstall it using the Msiexec with TRANSFORMS=":1033"
I've spent quite some time to get this to work without reinstalling it.

Switching the "Control panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Advanced -->" from Chinese (PRC) to English (United States) and rebooting the server solves the FDC problem, but then the whole server is affected. They will run the iScala ERP system on it and not sure if it is ok to have it set to English or not.

Any help would be much appreciated.

UPDATED 1: It is ok to switch entire server to English so we have done that and that works. Still would like to know if there is a way around it like the environment variable working for 5.3

UPDATE 2: Ok, we must use Chinese on the server so the workaround cannot be used.

Ok, got it to work by activating the default conversion in the ccsid.tbl

It was pretty well explained in the Data Conversion under WebSphere MQ

It really never solved my initial question but got MQ working as it should
