Hello,
Are there any "gotcha's" to be aware of for MQ Version 6?
We are currently running 5.3.1 and I would like to know if the install and upgrade will be seamless or can I expect difficulties.
We don't have a complex MQ topology, just point to point queue managers with sender and receiver channels.
Thanks! |

On what platform?
Windows was a breeze, z/OS was a non-issue....not done any on the other platforms personally though. |

You can search for previous posts on this forum, with a similar concern. It is very handy. |

Sorry, we are running z/os 1.7 with CICS/TS 2.3. The distributed systems are SUN Solaris 8, whicj is where WebSphere is.
MQ on the SUN is 5.3, there are no plans at this time to upgrade MQ on the SUN. |

Although I won't call it a "gotcha", when went through the SMP/E process for z/OS, some HOLDDATA came up for APAR PK17137. You will need to check if it applies to you or not, but I have added the RECOVER QMGR(QDEPTH x*) command to my install procedures, where x is the first letter of any application queue namex. It has something to do with correcting some erroneous curdepth count based on internal queue structures, for (as best as I can gather) CICS and WAS applications.
Also, the XPARMs are moved to ALTER commands, so the is no XPARM fo MQ 6.0. The ZPARM still exists. Also, the START CHINIT command drops the PARM(xxxxXPRM) piece. But these things are documented.
We are on z/OS 1.7 and CICS TS 3.1, and now MQ for z/OS 6.0 on 3 of our 5 LPARs.
Hope it goes well. |

So far we have not run into any problems, Linux, Solaris, Windows. We use a mixed bag of things, clustering, MSCS, etc. The only servers we have not touched yet are AIX and that is coming and I anticipate it should be rather uneventful as well. |
