My environment is MQ v5.3 on RHEL 4 and z/OS mainframe. I noticed that after I define the channels and queues. I can start my Sender channel (START CHANNEL) and get a status (DISPLAY CHSTATUS). However I can not start my Receiver channel this way. I had to wait for mainframe to start their sender channel for my receiver channel to come up. Is this by design?
BTW, what is the difference between MQSC command Start Channel and Linux command runmqchl?

Yes.

Platform, inclination and scripting requirements.
Channel behaviour is described in the Intercommunication manual; you may also find the description of the DISPLAY CHSTATUS in the command manual useful as it describes under what circumstances status is available and why.
The System Admin manual answers your other question in more detail. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
