Beating FJ to the punch, I'm reposting my own comment.

The release date is 02-06-2007.

I haven't played with it yet.

It's not available for Solaris,
will it be in the future?

Solaris was always a platform I wanted to cover, and is only not included becuase this work was initiated from requirements from a particular customer that didn't have any Solaris machines.
If you've got a requirement for MS6A on Solaris, do reply to this post, and I'll see when I can allocate some time to update the SupportPac.

Also, I put a bit more info about the reasons for creating MS6A on the hursleyonwmq blog.

I would also like to see it for Solaris.

Hello Peter,

it's not a requirement, but if it's available for Solaris, i would certainly use it.
But don't go spending all your free time on it

Thanks guys,
It's now on my todo list
I'll post back when it happens - I think realistically it'll be a couple of months.

From your blog post, you mention Windows as a future possibility. What kind of timeframes are you looking at for that? I know that would certainly be of great benefit in our environment.

And thanks Peter, for the time spent on this.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
The "But hopefully Windows support will be coming soon!" comment was actually from my colleague
Windows is a definite possibility, and the infrastructure part is there, but I've not done any work on a Windows installation script as yet (not much crossover between Windows and UNIX sadly).

For the moment, I think I'll wait for some feedback on how useful MS6A is in the real world on the UNIX platforms.
If people find it useful in their infrastructure (or have issues), please send me details through the "Rate this page" form on the MS6A SupportPac page (including your e-mail so I can respond directly).

(I'm not discouraging continued discussion here of course, it's just that that's the official IBM route to send me feedback)

Peter,

This is great work, we all thank you. I posted on the SupportPac feedback form also, mentioning our need for Solaris.

I hope that others will post their experieces with this SupportPac.

Shirley

Peter, I had a short look to your documentation - looks like something, I looked for all the years

... (when) will you support zLinux

But any professional software provisioning package should do the same thing.

Hubert - zLinux (s390 & s390x) should be easy to add, I would hope to add this at the same time as Solaris.

Jeff - I agree that some of what this SupportPac does on a simple level for WMQ (helping manage versions, invoking the platform installer and distributing packages to machines), a software provisioning package (such as IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager) can do across all software in an organisation - and much more.

The intention was certainly not to replace these complete enterprise solutions.

I would hope that the SupportPac's script fits with these products - where scripting tends to be part of building each software package.
For example ensuring all WMQ activity is stopped, performing a backup and restarting queue managers.
If you try it, do let me know how you get on.

Peter - I just wanted to remind people that if they're looking at this from an MQ administrator's point of view, they might be missing the larger enterprise point of view - and there may be tools they can purchase or that their enterprise already has for easing some of their pain points.
