Using alias queues to resolve to cluster queues (whether local or remote and whether using bind not fixed or bind on open) is a feature.
The situation Andrew describes is most likely a bug.

Just to refresh my memory:
2 clustered queues on qmgr A and B defbind set on bind on open , same clwlprty
2 clustered alias queues on qmgr A and B defbind set on bind not fixed, clwlprty set to 0 and 9 (B).
Putting a msg on qmgr C, using the clustered alias queues, B should act as a primary and A as a failover, regardless of whether you have bind on open or bind not fixed on the alias queues ... Right ?
I understand I am working a little bit differently with aliases here.
Usually I only put a clustered alias on a qmgr not hosting the queue like qmgr A and B if I need to alias the name of a clustered queue that is unique to a qmgr (C). So there would only be one instance (on C) of the physical queue in the cluster. Clustering the alias is here just a precaution... for name resolution purposes. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Yes. Note that when using bind on open the channel status check (and other checks which determine whether to failover or not), is only done at open time during workload balancing.
