what all directories need to be backed up to restore mqsi 2.1.
We are planning to migrate from mqsi 2.1 to MB6
in case of unsuccessful migration we want to go back to 2.1
so what all file systems do we need to backup to restore in case of unsuccessful migration.
Environment AIX 5.2
MQ 5.3.4 |

You don't need to remove or touch the 2.1 installation.
You can install v6 completely coexistant on the same servers.
There is a good deal of backup/recovery information in the 2.1 System Administration (or maybe the planning?) Guide. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

there are some aggregate requests that are awaiting response
I do need to migrate the broker to get the aggregate responses for corresponding requests ?
Once i migrate and some thing goes wrong how can i revert back to 2.1 ?
can i create a new 2.1 broker with the old 2.1 db ?
if so will it still have all the aggregate requests ? |

The mqsimigratecomponents utility will not migrate in-flight aggregations, you should not have any outstanding aggregation requests when you stop the v2.1 broker to migrate.

In the very, very, very unlikely event that something goes wrong, then use the -t flag of mqsimigratecomponents to backout a v6 broker to v2.1. However, you must have FP01 of v6 installed for this to work.

Yes, if the version of database is compatible with both v2.1 and v6. Note however that v2.1 and v6 brokers cannot share the same database schema.

The mqsimigratecomponents utility will not delete these aggregations (ISTR), but see my comment about in-flight aggregations above.
Hope this helps

To migrate back to MQSI 2.1 should MQSI be on version 2.1.0.8
What all folders do i need to back up so if migration screws up i can just copy the folders back and restart mqsi 2.1 |

It's not a matter of restoring files - you also need to consider MQ queues, databases and the registry. Restoring the lot by hand would be rather difficult and error prone. ... People do do this when restoring brokers outside of a migration scenario, but it's not for the faint hearted.
To achieve a v6 -> v2.1 backout, use mqsimigratecomponents instead- that's what it's there for. And if you still don't trust it - look at the output from the command - it tells you exactly what it's doing, so should give you a precise idea about what would need to be restored.
