The past week (or maybe a few days less) i couldnt access the forum.
I got an error like 'php error: cannot access database'.
Everything's fine now. I just hope nothing got corrupted and had to be deleted (like old post with valuable info).
Anyway, glad to see it back up! |

I'm so glad it wasn't just me!!!
When it came back and no-one said anything I just thought the company firewall was doing something more bizarre than normal..... _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Well, I blame myself and my hosting company for what happened.
I blame myself because I went on a 2 week vacation and decided to leave the email and phone at home so I could actually relax. The problem was that I should have given someone else access to the server while I was out so that they could resolve any issue that arose.
And I blame my hosting company because they decided to add some more memory to my server (to solve the slowness problem people have been experiencing in the past few months) but didn't confirm the site was functioning after they rebooted the machine.
So, the moral of the story is that I will be entrusting someone else with the server login whenever I'm away for an extended period so they can bounce the server if necessary... _________________ Brandon Duncan

Well if Brandon can afford a vacation he obviously doesn't need any financial assistance _________________ Bob Buxton

Seriously, Brandon, how is the site doing from a financial perspective? Do you have enough funds to do the things you want to do with the site, and do you have bit a cushion for emergencies?
Enquiring minds want to know.

Well, we're basically covering costs at this point with donations and the minimal google ads, but to get my hosting company to actively monitor my server and be proactive about fixing problems, that will cost additional money per month and donations are just too sporadic to depend on for that. Ad revenues are more consistent but just not enough. If we can drive more traffic to the site, presumeably the ad money will go up too. I'm open to ideas, but in the meantime we're kinda stuck with the status quo... _________________ Brandon Duncan
