My previous and current client have no intention of upgrading to V6 in the near future.
I found out during a discussion that this one particular company has just upgraded to 5.2 to my surprise. Their attitued is "if it has been working without any problems why bother to upgrade to new release/CSD" (and this is a financial company!!!). They don't care about EOS for the release. On the other end of the spectrum, ther are companies which want to be one of the first to upgrade to the latest relase/CSD. I personally recommend to wait and see the experience of the others before installing especially the new release. My attitude is almost the same about CSDs unless a CSD is addressing a problem that we have been experiencing.

RP1 for MQ 6.0 fixes the bug where endmqm or stopping channels hangs the QM. The readme notes for RP1 do not mention this bug, so I opened a ticket to get confirmation. The fix is indeed in RP1, and testing shows it is fixed.

| We are using MQ 5.3 and its working fine in production. In the next phase of our project we are thinking of upgrading to MQ 6.0 and maybe it will be in production this July. Would you guys recommend doing that?? or is it good to wait for some more time before doing that?? As anyone have 6.0 in production?? |

Yup, they fixed it in 6.0.1.0, and introduced a new similiar bug. See this: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&q1=IY81945&uid=swg21232972&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&cc=us&lang=en
For my Linux on Intel 6.0.1.0 QMs, they gave us a single file that was the fix, which required a QM restart to pick up.

Here's the answer I got from the PMR I opened. I found it very interesting and learned something new. The problem I reported was a process hanging after a normal endmqm was issued. I had the queue manager up and the listener (runmqlsr). In V5.3, you cannot end the listener while the queue manager was up. In V6 this changed. What I was seeing was my runmqlsr process and the amqzmgr0 process still executing while in the log it stated that the queue manager had ended normally. If the change teams response is common knowledge, then I apologize. So here is the response:
I can verify that the ability to end a channel listener before the queue
manager has been ended is a change for WMQ version 6.

On considering this question however, I have reconsidered my previous
update - which is not entirely accurate. Channel listeners should not
prevent a queue manager from stopping - and if the customer saw dspmq
output which indicates that the queue manager does not eventually end,
then this is indicative of an error, and should be reported.
.
However, if the customer was concerned about a possible hang due to
runmqlsr and amqzmgr0 processes remaining after issuing endmqm, and if
dspmq showed the queue manager as 'ended', then this is expected
behaviour.
.
The amqzmgr0 process is a part of the listener functionality - used to
start channel processes and so on. As such, it is required by runmqlsr
and should be running when a runmqlsr process is running. (Note that if
you start a listener for a queue manager which is not running using
runmqlsr, it will start both the runmqlsr and a amqzmgr0 process.)
Therefore, this is (at version 6) unrelated to the starting and stopping
of the queue manager.

Note that from version 6, channel listeners can now be created as an
object within the queue manager (e.g. using DEFINE LISTENER from
runmqsc), or as a separate process using runmqlsr from the command line.
As such, there is an exception to my above statement - which is that
channel listeners defined in runmqsc with a CONTROL type of 'QMGR' will
be started and stopped at the same time as the queue manager is started
and stopped. Listeners defined with a control type of MANUAL or
STARTONLY will remain running after a queue manager ends - leaving the
runmqlsr and amqzmgr0 processes running.

Once again mqseries.net comes to the rescue! I just started looking at WMQ v6. We have a local script to stop/start queue managers (loosely based on the HACMP support pac). The script was failing to recognize that the queue manager was down because an amqzmgr0 process was still running. Thanks to the previous post here I have saved much time exploring this issue (and probably opening a PMR).
