Hi
Does anybody have idea on MQ Series Open agent?
As far as my knowledge it is used to take online backup of MQseries files.
On which version of MQ open agent is supported?
and what would be required to install open agent?? _________________ Thanks and Regards ,

Hi
Thank you very much for your reply ..
I think Open smart is monitoring tool .
I am looking for a Agent which can be used to take backup without shutting down MQSeries services.
The actual requirement is My MQ Series has to be up while taking backup of system as the data pasing through MQ objects is time critical. _________________ Thanks and Regards ,

You can't take a valid backup of a queue manager while it is running.
There is a lot of information that is held in memory and otherwise not stored on files until the queue manager has shut down. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

It doesn't matter what version. You can't take a file-level backup of a running queue manager.
You can take a variety of other kinds of backups, depending on what information you are trying to preserve.
So your stated requirement is impossible to meet. So now you need to understand the business requirement, to see if you can meet that need with a different technical requirement. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Where did you hear about this "MQ Open Agent" ? As Jeff says, you can't take a complete backup of a running qmgr. _________________ -wayne |

The closest to an online backup you will come is using linear logging and running rcdmqimg. And this will probably not include non persistent messages... but should allow media recovery to point of failure. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Is that new in v6, that rcdmqimg can run against an active qmgr?
I don't want to bother downloading the Sys Admin PDF on ths machine right now. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

You can only run rcdmqimg while the qmgr is running.
It is recommended that you reduce the traffic as much as you can before running it but it will not crash if the qmgr is still busy. (V5.3)
It is advocated that you run it on a quiet qmgr (linear logging, no apps, all channels closed) just before an offline backup.
As I said it is not an offline backup and only is the nearest thing to an online backup.
It will not guarantee non persistent messages.
It will allow you to archive old log files in rewriting the media restore startpoint into the active logs.

Hi
Thank you very much for your replies ..
Backup is related to system level , not specific to MQ files.
There are other components are also running on the server like MB 5.0 and DB2 8.1 .
And there are some interfaces routed through MB and MQ .
thought If i upgrade both MB and MQ to latest versions i can take system level backup with all middleware services up
But As u all say i think its not possible now _________________ Thanks and Regards ,
