Hi

Currently we run Workflow (3.4) on z/OS (1.6). For reasons best known to our illustrious leaders, they want to evaluate the possibility of migrating from this setup to either AS/400 or *IX.

I believe both options are technically possible (please correct me if I am wrong about that) so my next concern would be performance considerations.

Currently the majority of the data we need resides in DB2 and FAF on the z/OS machine, and this isn't going to change. To me it makes more sense to keep the application and the data on z/OS but given that we may move the application to another platform does anyone have or know of any performance comparison charts/matrices that are available so that I can rightsize the distributed environment?

Any help would be appreciated. I am also asking IBM for their thoughts as I may need to kill this particual dragon fairly quickly

Hi,

1. With respect to performance on the different platforms:
Check out the performance evaluation SupportPac. Depending on your
specific process model you can calculate the required z/OS box and the
corresponding *IX box.
2. AS/400 is not a supported MQWF platform.
3. Although you can have a three tier setup, you cannot have a heterogenous
platform setup for the MQWF server. I.e. the database and the MQWF
servers must all run on the same platform.
4. There are certainly many good reasons why a company runs MQWF on
z/OS. I encourage you to ask IBM for support to elaborate the reasons
why your company should stay with z/OS - or not.

Thanks hos.

I have been in touch with IBM and they are going to work with us on this. It looks like our options would be WinDoze or AIX but again I am not sure our illustrious leaders are fully aware of the consequences should they follow this course of action.

Their thinking is to move workflow to defer the cost of upgrading the Z990. I am not sure that Workflow is such a big hitter in the scheme of things but they asked me to go fact find.

Thanks again
