But IBM's current position (which is unlikely to change, I think) is that MQ isn't supported on FC4, as this is not a tested environment. |
and that makes sense, since FC3/4 are "client" platforms... and since I'm not running production on my thinkpad, if it works, its good..... (I can't really see running RHELx on my thinkpad ) _________________ -wayne |

The only thing I am curious about is what IBM says for MQ v6:
- On Linux x86, MQ v6 requires RHEL v3 Update 3 or SLES 8 with SP3 or SLES 9
- On Linux x86_64, MQ v6 x86_64 requires RHEL v4 or SLES 9
So, will MQ v6 x86_64 work on FC4 x86_64?? |
Absolutely !
I've some running on RH FC4 x86_64 for some time for testing purposes. You might need to get a couple of libxxx.so installed for gskit and MQExplorer.
uname -srp
Linux 2.6.15-1.1831_FC4smp x86_64

Yea, I needed to install compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.fc4.rpm to get libstdc++.so.5

Nope, not as far as I recall it. I can't see any trace of it in my logs or scripts.
It was as I remember it too quick to install, just do it in the right order.

I have found the exact same troubles everyone is talking about here. I did set the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL parameter in my .bash_profile for mqm and seem to have MQ running in a crippled state. I can run a sender channel to my Windows MQ server, but for some reason, I'm getting TCP errors when starting the channel INTO to RH FC4 MQ server from the Windows server. Very odd.
I think I'll take Roger's advice and roll back to FC3 where everything ran just fine....geez.

I have several friends who have used FC4 on x86 (32bit) and they have complained about how unstable they thought FC4 was. (They don't use MQ but rather WebLogic.)
I have FC3 x86 (32bit) installed on a server with dual Intel Celeron CPUs and MQ v5.3 and it works very well.
I bought 3 new servers a couple of weeks ago from InfoNec http://www.infonec.com in Markham, Canada - 2 of the servers have the exact same configuration. Here's the configuration:
- Tyan Tomcat K8E S2865G2NR
- AMD Opteron 148 Processor (2.2Ghz)
- Generic 1GB PC3200 DDR 400
- Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200 GB - SATA-150 - 7200 rpm
- Sony DVD 16X
- Sony 1.44M floppy drive
- CP-201 ATX mid case & 400W Generic Power supply
No OS, no monitor, no keyboard or mouse. Note: The motherboard has embedded network and video. I paid $790 + tax Canadian per server. (about $700 USD).
I installed FC4 x86_64 on one and Solaris 10 x86_64 on the other. Then I installed the 64-bit versions of MQ on each of them. So far, these configuration are working very well. (including FC4 - surprising) I have not had to use any environment variables or any other tricks.
Hope that helps.

Silly question - did you tell FC4's firewall to open up the listener port for incoming connections? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

DOH !!!!!
I just went through the whole reinstall of FC3...and had the same trouble!
Yes indeed - darn firewall preventing incoming connections...how foolish.
system-config-securitylevel ... went in and added port 1414 under "other ports" (1414:tcp) ..and bravo !
So, now I could probably say that I could get this config working (limping) on FC4, using the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL option...but hey, it's working on FC3 right now so I'm all set for now.
I need to try our software (PM4Data) out on this environment to see if it works (no, we don't support this config officially).
