Hi,
In our hub and spoke environment we're looking at ways of encrypting our data. We're aware of the SSL facilities for encrypting whilst the data is in transit across channels and also aware of products (e.g. Tivoli Access Manager) for encrypting data end to end.
I'd be interested in hearing about particularly good products that are being widely used out there to encrypt the data end to end. I'd be particularly interested in mechanisms that have been used or are available to encrypt just parts of the message payload (e.g. the salary fields within the XML that is being transmitted). Is there something available out there that will do the trick or would we need to implement something ourselves?

Candle (now IBM) and Primeur provide tools for that reasons, but there are other products. You are also able, to write your own tool (API exit).

I'd rather buy than build an API exit, etc. Do any of those vendors provide a product that will encrypt just a portion of the message? Is it multiplatform? Anyone using these products an can comment upon them?

As far as I know, these tools encrypt the complete message.
