Two AIX machines, identically configured, same OS patch levels with MQSeries 5.2.0.2. Same user, same profile, identical environment settings. On one "amqsget TEST QM1" gives 2035 (not authorized) which is expected, as user has no authorizations. On the other, "amqsget TEST QM2" gives 2058 (QM not known). QM2 exists, is identically set up to QM1, and the name is not mistyped; queue TEST also exists (not that it matters, since it never gets that far). Another user, with the only difference being that they are a member of group mqm, can run "amqsget TEST QM2" ok. Giving the first user +allmqi permissions still gives the same 2058 error.
Trace shows one invocation doing MQCONNX and one doing MQCONN, which I don't understand - apart from that, everything looks identical, and I'm stumped.
Any ideas? |

MQCONNX was a red herring - just something going on on the same box at the same time. Repeat trace showed just MQCONN. Adding user to mqm group causes everything to work as expected. But why? |

Do you have multiple queue managers on each box ???? _________________ Jeff

Turns out that the permissions on the /var/mqm directory were rwxrwx---. Changing this to rwxrwxr-x fixed the problem. |

When trying to connect to QM2 through a client application, make sure MQServer environment variable is pointing the correct QManager and correct port number on which QM2 is listening |
