I used to be pleased to see my home town in MO even listed on most maps. I got a little misty eyed being able to see the actual house I grew up in.
Hell I can even see a blurry image of what I believe is my truck parked in front of my apartment (aka flat).
It still amazes me how far and how fast technology is moving. The images in this tool were taken with what is now un-classified commercial satelites and the resolution is even better than the U2 and satelite photos that were used to prove that Cuba had Nuclear missles in the 60's.
Kinda spooky to think of what the Government has now. They probably have satelites that can see in your window if the shades are open or read the license plate on a car from orbit. Who knows they may even be able to read over the shoulder of someone reading sitting in a park reading the morning paper.
Wow. Just wow. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

No wonder their stock price is going nutz.
That is cool. Don't know about blurry trucks, I can barely make out my 22 story office tower (but that's still pretty kewl!) _________________ Peter Potkay

in my opinion, its one of the best things on the net for years.
i often spend my holidays in the us or canada, and i started to check
the places i visited with google earth (e.g. the niagara falls, national parks, campgrounds and so on), and i include the placemarks into my digital holiday foto books.
i love it! _________________ Regards, Butcher |

Seems like different areas of the country (world) have different levels of resolution. Las Vegas for instance has a much better resolution. You can very clearly see cars there.

Just downloaded it and was mesmerised for an hour, what a great piece of software.
Looks good for kids too, I'm going to get my wife to give her class a lesson with it! |

Yes and the photographs are of different ages to. Some I have seen for example in north Scottsdale the construction that was finished on the Loop 202 Freeway appears to still be in progress.
Something cool that I saw while searching for Mount Killimanjaro in Tanzania. I found what appears to have been a forest or brush fire. In the image you can see the fire and smoke rising from the ground. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

I am not sure how many of you looked at http://maps.google.com I think this product has the same map base. You can zoom-in to a level very clearly, but after that it gets blurry. I spent couple of Hrs on the site when satellite maps were released by Google. It's amazing to see low level details from the satellite image. I could see White House, Niagara Fall, etc! _________________ Kiran

Hi,
I found the satellite pictures to be over 1 year old - that is at least for Markham, Ontario, Canada. I noticed it when I was looking around my area. Last summer they built a Tim Horton's (coffee shop) down the street from my house but on the satellite pictures it is still an empty field!!
Interesting yes, but useful, hummm, I don't know.

Usefull, well it blows mapquest away IMHO. Indeed some of the images are as I said before as much as two years old but some are as recent as a mere two months.
Detail does vary.
Still, I am impressed. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

My car is currently parked a couple of stories above what Google Earth insists is a parking lot, not a parking garage (ramp). _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I think it could be useful.
Type in the the address of the hotel you will be staying at, and then select gas stations, coffee shops, movie theaters, golf courses, etc, and click search. Instantly you can see what facilities are close to where you are staying.
Or show it someone who just went on vacation, and watch them get all into into it and give you a virtual tour of where they went and what they saw. _________________ Peter Potkay

So, http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/07/28/disappearing.apple.ap/index.html]this reminded me of Google Earth.
It also reminded me I'd been meaning to ask if anyone else had been to
51 deg 01 min 31.17 sec N
1 deg 23 min 26.33 sec W
in Google Earth yet.
There's not much to look at, but there is a large blue/white blob off the northeast just a bit. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
