How do you give somebody authority to set somebody absent using the setAbsent API call?

What have you tried.
I never did this but ADMIN should be able to do it.
Maybe the manager of the person. I am not sure though.

I believe that you need Staff Authority.

And as Venny says, ADMIN can definitely do this.

Thanks for the input. The users have got staff Authority. It seems like the only other people are the person's manager.

I am doing this currently so I am not sure what your problem is with this. Here is the doc from the Pgming guide:

Authorization One of the following:
Users can change the absence attribute in their own person record.
    Users who have Staff authorization.
    The system administrator.

In my case I also have access to the workitems of the person I am attempting to set absent, but as you can see that is not required based on the doc. You could however, try that, and maybe there is a bug in the doc.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses. It seems like the deployment of the user org structure was not successful. After checking the file and redeploying the problem seemed to solve itself.
