We will be installing 5.3 on a Unix box that already has 5.1 on it. We have a Test & Prod Que Manager using 5.1. Is there a way that we can do the install and seperate these two versions? We'd like to shutdown the Test Que Manager(using 5.1) and bring him up using 5.3 for our testing.
Also, Smitty gets updated during the 5.3 install. Is there a way to seperate this also, or not do this update?
Thanks in Advance,
Paul |

If you are asking if you can run the 5.1 and 5.3 code on the box at the same time, the answer is no. |

Bower5932, Thank you for the info. That answered one of my questions.
The next one is that can we install 5.3 on the box that contains 5.1??
Thinking here is that if we can, we can shutdown 5.1, bring up 5.3 and continue working. If we have problems with 5.3, we can then shut it down and bring up the 5.1.
We're looking for a "backout" that would be achieved as quickly as possible.
Thanks in Advance,

Whether you can back out, or even run different version on the same machine, depends a lot on your OS and platform.
Granted, I don't know of any Unix platforms that let you run multiple instances of MQ (as opposed to multiple queue managers) - but there could be, particularly some of the high end HP-UX boxes.
However, typically I don't expect you can back out an upgrade, but only a CSD. In this case, you'll want to perform a standard backup of the system (taking into account the issues with backing up MQSeries that are described in the System Administration guide), and then use that to recover if you need to back out the upgrade. |
