I have a client with an interesting MQ Client issue! Has anyone come across a problem where the maximum number of client connections that a listener running on Solaris is limited to 256 or thereabouts? I have looked at ULIMIT ( the maximum number of file descriptors available per process ) but increasing this and rebooting does not appear to help yet the customer is convinced that there is a relationship.
If I test this theory using fopen however I can open as many files as ULIMIT is set to. Perhaps there is another cause? Any ideas?
This issue is quite interesting!
Update: Upgrading to 5.2 of MQ allows 600 connections before the listener fails.

My first line of attack would be to take an MQ Client trace and see what is happening internally. There may very well be a good clue (such as unable to open file, shared memory access limit reached etc etc).

Looking at the MQSeries Clients manual (Chapter 13 - Solving problems) ... it appears that you can capture a trace by issuing the comands:

$ strmqtrc -e
$ <recreate problem>
$ endmqtrc -e
$ cd /var/mqm/trace
$ dspmqtrc <filename>

Please report back what you find, even if it is nothing.
