Hi,
I'm currently trying to get a backup/recovery szenario for MQSeries pulled together. There is some documentation in the System Administraton Manual, and there is a redbook on that Subject that I read.

Some questions still remain open - perhaps I just did not find them- but they are all around the rcdmqimg command.

- Does that command enforce a checkpoint to be written to the logs on all platforms or is this a specific functionality only on AS/400 ? It's only described there.

- when I do a backup of logs and checkpoint file while the Queue Manager is still running that does not seem to be a good Idea.
The files are open at that point of time. Any Idea to get a consistent Backup without pulling the QM down ?
Or does it work anyway.... ?

- somewhere in the Internet I saw a post about an automatic rcdmqimg during startup. Now I saw that a checkpoint is written to the log - are these the same things or do both things happen ?

Any comments apreciated.

Andreas

Good afternoon,

In order to accomplish image recordings in the log you must be using linear logging on your queue manager. Second, A checkpoint occurs at startup, shutdown and by default after every 1000 transactions. A checkpoint simply contains the data necessary to perform a restart of the queue manager. The rcdmqimg when executed records all information about an object (ie Local Queue) and writes this information into the log. There is no real need to backup the log files to tape or other media. If you wish to do this you will have to use an open file agent with your backup software or stop the queue manager.

Hope this helps. If you need additional info let me know

Sincerely,
Tony Allison
