I need answers to a few questions: HELP!
1. Can z/OS be used as an MQI Client to a WebSphere MQ queue manager on UNIX?
2. To recover persistent messages on the channels at the time of a failure, what should be done? - I know they cannot recover automatically. Does RESOLVE CHANNEL need to be issued before starting the channels?
3. Can the REBUILD SECURITY command be used in place of REFRESH SECURITY? If so, at what situations?

Answers:
1. No.
2. Persistent messages will NOT be lost. Fix the problem with the channel. i.e. real network problem or whatever. RESOLVE CHANNEL will work in most cases but sometimes you may need to do RESET CHANNEL.
3. From the manual: REBUILD SECURITY is another synonym for REFRESH SECURITY.

2. After fixing the problem, in most cases, the channels should re-connect and messages start to flow again automatically after the next retry interval. No action required.
RESOLVE CHANNEL is only needed if the channel goes In-Doubt on the re-connect. There is a section in the Intercommunication Guide about In-Doubt channels that tells you how to decide which ACTION to use. Failure to use this 'process' could result in either lost messages, or duplicate messages. _________________ Eddie Atherton
