How do I specify the contents of an xml message to be posted when wf completes an automatic activity? I need the activity start date to be in the message.

Your upes should send in the ActivityImplInvokeResponse. If you havent already taken a look at "Part 5: XML message Interface" of MQWF programming guide, it is time.

If I hear you right, you are saying that you want to dictate the contents of the message. This is not possible. See the doc Ratan quoted and you will see exactly what you will receive.

You can always have the StartDate as a o/p container member and have your activity write it.
