I want to convert between a custom character set (actually ebcdic with some wrinkles) and ascii (437, say). Both are 256 chars, and there's a one-to-one mapping between the characters. Obviously, I can write a conversion exit to do this.
I'm looking at another possible solution, and wonder if anyone has any idea if it's possible. Suppose I give the character set a CCSID 123, construct two 256-byte conversion tables (one for each direction), and put them in <MQ>\conv\table as 07B1B5.tbl and 1B507B.tbl (1B5 being hex for 437. 07B hex for 123). If the CCSID in the MQMD for an incoming message is 123, and my qmgr's CCSID is 437, will MQ perform the translation, or is this completely off the wall?
And if it's possible, how do I derive a CCSID that won't clash with existing ones - is there a central registry somewhere? _________________ Brian Meekings
