I previously installed an MQSeries Server on a machine, defined queues, channels and so on. I also coded an application that communicates through this local MQ Server with other MQ Servers to read from/write to remote queues.

Now I am thinking about changing the computername on just this box that my local application and MQ Series server is running on. Is this possible without any hassle? I don't care about that the naming of previously defined channels will indicate "wrong" computer and so on. I'm just interested to know if the communication would still work between the different servers without any modifications.

Tanks in advance
/M

I assume, because you don't mention it, that this is some sort of Windows NT/2k/XP box

Changing the name of your machine internally should not affect any external server connecting to it. You can call your machine what you want.

If you change it's DNS name then sure, if your external servers use the machine name in the CONNAME parameter, then this will be a problem.

But if they use the machines IP address, then there is no problem.

You are right, I am talking about a w2k server here, sorry I didn't mention it.

Anyway, as I understand your answer, there would be no problem renaming the computer itself because I defined the sender channels "connection name" with IP(portnr) on all servers and not with their hostnames (lucky me)

Thank you very much for your answer!
