I am writing to the environment in a compute node. From there the message goes to a Reset Content Descriptor, then a subflow, and then back into another compute. I am trying to retrieve the data from the environment that I set in the previous compute. My question is, should I be able to retrieve from the environment even though I have sent the message to a subflow?

Yes you can! Subflow is like a macro, which gets expanded when you deploy the message flow.
