I have read the forum looking for a way to delete expired messages on the queue. We are using MQ Java. The only solution I have seen is to run a MQBrowse program outside of our application. Is that still valid information?

Depending on your platform, the information is still valid. You can run the amqsbcg sample program that ships with MQSeries to remove expired messages. If you are on z/OS, there is a parameter that you can specify to indicate how often MQ should look at queues to get rid of expired messages.
