All,
IBM has 2 different JRE/JDK (aka Java) offerings:
1. IBM JRE/JDK based on Oracle's JRE/JDK plus (I think) SSL/TLS enhancements
2. IBM JRE/JDK based on OpenJDK called IBM Semeru.
It appears that IBM includes the Oracle based JRE with IBM MQ? My question is why? Is it a technical issue or a licensing issue?
Why doesn't IBM use the IBM Semeru JRE/JDK with IBM MQ? Seems odd to me.

I know nothing about Java, but I found this Statement of Direction about IBM Semeru:-
What's new and changed in IBM MQ 9.3.0 > Statement of direction
IBM Docs wrote: |
Effective with the next IBM MQ Long Term Support release, clients should use a separately downloadable IBM Semeru Java runtime for IBM MQ client applications instead of using the Java runtime packaged with IBM MQ. IBM MQ intends to provide support for the IBM Semeru runtime via IBM MQ product entitlement when used for the purpose of running IBM MQ Java/JMS applications. The Java runtime packaged with the IBM MQ product is expected to be updated more often which might result in breaking changes for applications depending on it. |
And then in the V9.4 docs the same statement, no longer as future direction, but as now.
Use of separately downloadable IBM Semeru Java runtime for IBM MQ client applications

I'm not sure that it answers your question about which one gets packaged with MQ, but it suggests encouragement to use IBM Semeru instead of the packaged one.

Hi Morag,
Thanks. That does answer my question. I was confused as to why IBM was continuing to have 2 separate JDK/JRE builds but if they are moving to using IBM Semeru then that is the answer.
