Dears

Is there any reason behind that the MQI Channels works bi-directionally and the message channel is still one way ?

Thanks

There are probably lots of reasons. It was certainly considered at one point to have a bi-directional mode with a transmission queue at either end but it never got sufficient traction. I guess the customer need was never strong enough.

Why ? Do you have a problem which would require a bi-directional channel to solve ?

Thanks Paul...

No - actually new projects do not use message channels anyway, i was just wondering since the technology allows 2way MQI channels...why same is not not unified across the message channels as well...it would make a lot of things simpler...

Thanks

Well I guess it is debatable whether things would be made simpler on balance. There are certainly advantages to the idea that if QMA can send to QMB then QMB can automatically send to QMA. However, there would be ramifications, such as security, performance, and an increased complexity in the 'single' object that you define. I suspect it would also affect the way cluster channels would operate. It is rare that ANY decision concerning design doesn't have winners and losers. For some people it would be just what they need; for others it would raise more questions than it answered. I suspect it was for these reasons that it was never implemented.

Cheers,
Paul.

MQI channels are basically encapsulated calls and returns for MQI functions, which is quite different to the protocol on distributed channels. (As Paul would know so well )

Its one of those MQ things that has stood the test of time.
