My question is, if an application abends (i.e., encounters an unmonitored exception) after having put logical messages to a queue, but not committing the group or setting the Last-Msg-In-Grp switch, how do the messages get discarded? At this point the queue manager knows that it has an incomplete group. Let's assume that the messages have been put to the queue with a limited expiration interval and that interval has expired. In this situation the queue manager would make the messages unavailable, but when and how does the queue manager physically discard the messages? My concern is having useless messages remaining on queues. _________________ David M. Reines

Depending on the platform and the version of MQ, it would be either on the next destructive get or on the next non-destructive get of the queue.
