Win2K, MQ 5.3 - When I right click on a queue manager in MQSeries Services (mmc), and go over to 'New' I see 'Channel' as an option. After playing around with it, I started thinking it may not be a channel at all.
So I'm curious, what is the intended usage of this 'channel' service.
TIA,

It's just a service to start the channels automatically for you when you cycle the queue manager. We use it on most of out boxes and it works fine. Some of our people often get confused because the MQ channel can be running but the service may say "stopped", because the service did not start the channel.
If you plan to implement this I would HIGHLY recommend you set "Execution Failure" under the Recovery Tab to "Take no Action". This way the service will try to kick the channel on qmgr cycle, but only once. If the channel can't start for whatever multitude of reasons then you let the chin drive its retry logic. Otherwise, it can easily happen that the channel starts on its own when the queue manager comes up (depending on what state it was in when the queue manager came down) and then the service tries to start it after it's already running. The result is the channel is running but you get umpteen messages in the error logs saying "channel tried to start but failed" because the service is trying to start an already running channel and failing.
Hope that makes some sense...
