I have 4 qm's in cluster 2 Fr's and 2 PR's on 4 seperate aix servers.
i had to stop these qmgrs for aix upgrade activity, which i did one by one on each server.
i had suspended the qm3(PR) from cluster and stopped the qmgr, once the activity is done
i had started the qmgr and issued resume QMgr on QM3.

i followed the same process on all qmgrs.
after restart i see that the messages in the SCRQ has come down from 100 to 5, is this normal?

I checked the dis clusqmgr, and the clus objects which are fine.
i believe the SCRQ contains information about the qmgr and its cluster objects..i have 2 questions..

1.Have the information about the queue manager and its objects have been deleted from the Repository queue?
2.The process i chose to stop/start the qmgrs is correct?

I did all this on TEST env..so wanted to be clear before i do it on PROD.

PRs contain information about objects it has expressed interest in.

PR cluster objects definitions not referenced will stale out after 90 days (or is it 60?). When the deleted objects are next referenced by PRs, the FR will resupply the PR with the cluster object definition.

Sounds like normal behavior.

Did you see any errors logged in the error files for any of the qmgrs?

Yes. Periodically, repository code will combine multiple small messages into fewer large messages. When new repository state is written to the queue, i.e. there's a new cluster queue, this is written immediately as one small message, but when the whole queue is read, say at start up, it is more efficient if it can be read as fewer messages (same data), so this consolidation is done periodically. It is normal behaviour.

Cheers,
Morag

On a test cluster, issue the refresh cluster command while watching the depth of the S.C.R.Q.

Issue it again. Wait a bit. Again. Wait a bit. Watch the queue depth - interesting! The internal cluster workings are managing the messages on the S.C.R.Q. (as Morag described) and we can't assume anything about the size or depth of that queue. Well, if it was empty I guess that would be a serious problem.

Don't do the above on a "real" cluster. The Refresh Cluster command can be disruptive to application traffic.
