Are you sure you are using the correct log4j config file... not all classes may be supported by the implementation.
I don't think shared libraries has anything to do with it.
You easier bet it to try it in a smaller environment.
Iam3 is the cat3 support pack which was quite popular. It has bunch of limitations as well.
Nevertheless, I do agree with other comments here on logging. There are better logging solutions which you can adopt which will do the logging in asynchronous manner.

We have tried this in a small dev environment with one execution group. That works fine and files are rolled over as they should.
In an environment with multiple execution groups containing the shared library files are not logged over. I suspect it has to do with files being locked by another eg so the file is not being rolled over.
I believe we may have a solution and I am suprised this is not stated in the support pack documentation.
Essentially the problem is that the same brokerlog.xml file cannot be shared across multiple execution groups. Somehow due to multiple processes reading the same file it seems to cause the appenders to malfunction and the files do no roll or roll randomly.
What we have tried now which initially seems to work is to promote the property of the location of the brokerlog.xml and have one brokerlog.xml per execution group. This seems to solve the rolling fille issue.
