We have big number (100 000) of manual activities in Wok Flow.
It very dificult for WEB Client, even we using virtual user concept to generate 1:1 Work Items and different filters to limit Work list.

I think about option to replace all manual activities with automatic.
I'm planning using XML messaging: automatic sinchronized activity will sent message to application and create "manual error event" in DB.
After handling of event XML message will close activity.

Error handling average time is 48 h.
Manual activity is stored in WF in state ready till "check out" operation. CheckOut - CheckIn takes average time 2 h.
Automatic activity will be running all period of 48 h.

Which scenario has more impact on WF - automatic or manual?
How can help "suspending" of waiting process?

Automatic scenarion will save WorkItem generation without overhead on runtime.
