There is going to be an obvious answer to this which I am missing.

MQ 8.0 / MB 8.0

To connect to a remote queue manager via MQ Explorer you can provide a userid in MQ Explorer to use rather than it using the ID that passes over from your local machine.

I know that a user id can be set in mcauser and on channel auths etc but just wondering why there is an option for Queue Manager but not Broker.

I suspect the short answer is, "because they didn't code it".

You have the option to use the mqccred exit for those applications that cannot be changed to code the user ID that you want to use.
