I found a lot of 10-year-old posts about rcdmqimg and rcrmqobj for use in recovering damaged objects in installations that use linear logging. But then, I found this documentation in MQ8 Info Center :
Quote:
For linear logging, manually delete the file containing the damaged object and restart the queue manager. (You can use the dspmqfls command to determine the real, file-system name of the damaged object.) Media recovery of the damaged object is automatic.
MQ8 Info center contains information for rcdmqimg, rcrmqobj, and the manual deletion method quoted above. Are all these damaged object recovery commands and methods available for use in MQ8? Which is the preferred method for recovery?

I don't believe the recovery is automatic anymore.
Not unless you start your qmgr with the correct flag
(-f Fix corrupt or missing data directories.)
rcrmqobj will still initiate the manual recovery from media.

There are no conceptual changes in MQ V8 in this respect.

You should only ever manually remove MQ object files under the direct guidance of IBM MQ support and this recommendation should NOT have been added to the info center.

I ran a trivial test where I intentionally damaged the QMGR object (while the queue manager was inactive) and no manual action was required to recover the object (a simple strmqm was sufficient).

Please check the following MQ infocenter URL for details on recovery.
