I have created a Request For Enhancement related to this topic. Please click on this link and vote for it if you think its a good idea.

RFE Title:
DataPower Compare Configuration - Enhance it to work at the appliance level
RFE Description:
We would like the DataPower Compare Configuration utility to be able to identify any and all changes across multiple domains. We need the ability to easily and comprehensibly compare all aspects of 2 appliances by taking a complete export of each and comparing the 2 files. Or to compare the previous state of an appliance (captured by a previous export) to the current state.
Apparently the DataPower Compare Configuration utility in its current form only compares the objects in the domain from which the compare utility is being run. This means we have to compare each domain one by one. This behavior is not documented. As a result of my PMR, IBM produced this dW Answers article:
https://developer.ibm.com/answers/questions/244623/configuration-comparison-doesnt-seem-to-be-working.html
If IBM gives us the ability to easily and comprehensibly compare appliances, we will be able to identify incorrect configurations ourselves. This will result in fewer PMRs for IBM. This will result in fewer issues related to DataPower at the customer site.
There are many reasons to compare appliances: Between 2 that make up an H.A. pair; between PROD and DR, between QA and PROD, between an old one and its new replacement.
RFE Use case:
I am trying to compare two DataPower appliance configs by using the WebGUI Compare Configuration tool. My steps are the following:
1. Save entire appliance configuration export.
2. Make small change to an object in an application domain.
3. Save entire appliance configuration export.
Current Behavior: When I compare these two exports with the Compare Configuration tool in the default domain the change is not found. When I compare them in the application domain, the change is found.
Desired Behavior: No matter which domain the Compare Configuration is executed from, the utility compares all objects in both files, and identifies all differences. _________________ Peter Potkay

Peter. Following the link, I encounter the message that "the content you are trying to access is not available. Try again later". I tried again later and it is still not available. |

Are you signed in to Developerworks?
I just logged into IBM with my IBM ID and found the RFE at

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |
