I am reading this IBM presentation
IBM WebSphere MQ 1870: Using Publish/Subscribe in an MQ Network
https://www-950.ibm.com/events/wwe/impact/impact2014cms.nsf/download/k8ee7af0614f614f61455248007c/$FILE/Impact2014_1870.pdf
Our scenario is A big ‘hub and spoke’ cluster
-A thousand queue managers, all talking to a few in HQ, but rarely to each other.
- Each with its own subscriptions and publishers.
The recommendation is "Use topic host routed clustered topics, possibly on a dedicated set of routing queue managers, sized to take the load."
However our cluster (1000+ Qmgrs) has V8 full repos and V8 topic hosting Qmgrs. But most of the other partial repos Qmgrs are still 7.5 This means that most of the subscribers are V7.5.
The presentation says
"Any older queue managers will not be aware of the topic host routed
topic definition and continue to behave as if it was not defined in the
cluster"
But these QMgrs are inside the MQ cluster.
I need some help to understand on what does it mean by "as if it was not defined in the cluster"
Are they still able to subscribe to the cluster Topic and receive the publication they want ? What exactly is the impact to these V75 subscribers ? |

Are you merely trying to implement a new "Best-practice" topology?
Or are you trying to solve some specific performance issue? _________________ chmod -R ugo-wx / |

Thanks. Found an answer in the V8 info center which says "When a clustered topic is defined for topic host routing (by setting the topic CLROUTE parameter to TOPICHOST ), only queue managers at the new level are aware of the clustered topic. Older queue managers do not receive the clustered topic definition and therefore behave as if the topic is not clustered.
The "it" in the statement "as if it was not defined in the cluster" is referring to the topic and not the Qmgr.
Now I understand. |

For writing technical documentation, I have found it better to be as specific as possible and avoid pronouns (i.e. use queue manager instead of it). Us Americans don't have the greatest grasp of subjective and objective pronouns, anyway (i.e. who vs. whom). _________________ Working with MQ since 2010. |

You do very well given that you're all speaking a foreign language.....

How true!
However, I thought "God Save The Queen" was "My Country, Tis of Thee"? _________________ Working with MQ since 2010. |

I'd choose 'Land of my Fathers' because that hasn't been hijacked by Hollywood.
Singing that at the Arms Park and watching Gareth Edwards and Barry John do magic with the oval ball will stay with me for ever.
And now Coldplay are gonna play the Superbowl. Heaven. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

Well absolutely yes, though the words do differ a fraction and you must admit the British version (thought to date back to 1619, published as sheet music 1774) does pre-date the American version by a hair (written in 1831).

I would have to agree.
When my wife and I visited London for a week in 2002, one of our tour guides said something like "To all you foreigners in the group, welcome to England. And to all you Americans in the group, welcome home." I got a good chuckle out of that.
Although, I would have to say we might of been bad luck. It was the same week that David Beckham broke his foot and the queen mother died. _________________ Working with MQ since 2010. |

Not cause and effect. I don't travel to places where people drive on the wrong side of the road. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Dual nationality dear boy. I had my fingers crossed for this bit:
Quote: |
absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen |
But you want me to defend the American constitution, or perform work of national importance under civilian direction, I'm your guy. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
