Hi!
I have MQ Explorer and QM1 installed locally. After I change ccsid (from 437) for QM (with alter qmgr ccsid(1251)), I could not connect to QM with MQ Explorer.
Get this error: "Coded character-set ID error. Cannot convert a command message to the CCSID of the target QM (AMQ4052)".
After restarting QM1 with endmqm and strmqm everything is working and I can connect to it with MQ Explorer.
My question is: Why I need to restart QM after changing ccsid? Is it possible to avoid restarting? |

Here is the documentation on this requirement in the MQ manual.
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_8.0.0/com.ibm.mq.ref.adm.doc/q085320_.htm?lang=en
CCSID ( integer )
If you use this parameter to change the CCSID, applications that are running when the change is applied continue to use the original CCSID. Therefore, stop and restart all running applications before you continue including the command server and channel programs. To stop and restart all running applications, stop and restart the queue manager after changing the parameter value. _________________ Working with MQ since 2010. |

I have found that a change to the QMGR CCSID does need a QMGR restart.
I've seen this behavious from at least V6.0.0.1 _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |

Some CCSID changes are more forgiving than others... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
