In our environment we have flows that are running on WMBv7.0, also IIBv9.0. We don't have any plans to move to IIBv10 in the near future.
I want to use the mqsicreatebar tool on jenkins to automatically build our bar files for releasing. Our IT CI environment is moving towards a docker solution, meaning that all the build tools will be contained in docker images.
I know IIBv10 runs in docker, but IIBv9.0 and doesn't, or at least hasn't been proven yet.
So my question is...
Is the mqsicreatebar command backward compatible with older versions of message broker? For example, would I be able to run mqsicreatebar for v10 on WMB v7 flows? Does anyone know of any differences in the bar file specification between major WMB releases? I'm going to make a guess and say that building bar files with different versions of mqsicreatebar is probably not supported. |

No. Mostly.

The compatibility is forward, so you can run the create bar command for WMBv7 and deploy the result to any broker v7 - v10. The create bar for v10 can only create bar files for v10, even though it would probably accept a v7 project as input. Note the use of the word "probably" there; it moves to "absolutely" if the v7 project has been pulled in to the v10 Toolkit and saved first. With any highlighted discrepancies fixed.

Not in the bar specification, but the contents have changed a bit in the years since v7 was released (2009?)

Yeah that's what i guessed. I'll probably go down the road of trying to dockerize v7.0 and v9.0 simply to allow the execution of mqsicreatebar.
