I have noticed that if I follow the link in a 'New post' or 'New private message' notification emal it updates the last visit time cookie and so the next time I use the 'view posts since last visit' I don't see any of the posts that have arrived since my previous use of 'view posts since last visit'.

So I find that I have to ignore the link in the email and do a 'view posts since last visit' check before checking the private message.

Is it possible to not update the last visit time when following the notification links?

Ideally I want to scan the forums for new posts once a day but to be able to respond to posts on the topics that I am watching more frequently.

Hmm... I'll look into that. I've never tried clicking the link in an email I receive; however, if I go to the site, and get the little popup window saying I have a new private message, I can read the private message and then click view posts since last visit without any problem. So it seems this is isolated to the notification emails...
