This IBM Link
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_7.5.0/com.ibm.mq.ins.doc/q008510_.htm

says that hosting queue manager data and logs on separate disks increases the performance.

My question is - is this applicable for Multi-Instance queue managers also? Since we may need 2 NFS4 mounts to put data and logs, and when we failover the queue manager from active to standby - how are the file locks handled as they are in different mounts?

Thanks

Typically on a Multi-Instance queue manager you should have different mounts for data and logs to the SAN making sure they do not overlap on the physical disk.
So if the files system served by one mount should go bad (god forbid) the second mount is still good....
Now if you have multiple SAN's ...

What!!!!! Are you saying that you only have one SAN? One single point of failure?

Some systems I've worked on have multiple SANS setup so that one takes over from the other in the event of failure. Naturally these are in different DC's with lots of fat fibre connecting them.

It all comes down to $$$$$ really.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.
