I'm trying to upgrade the existing MQ V7.1 installation to MQV8 on a Linux machine. I understood from infocenter that from 7.0.5 the existing installation can be upgraded without uninstalling it, but I wasn't able to find any documentation that showed how to. The existing infocenter pages on Upgrading and Migration MQ tells to uninstall the existing version and install the new one.
