We are about 50% complete with out migration from MQv7 to MQv8 and just got a price shock. I am looking to see if this shock can be nixed simply by uninstalling components I assume we should not have installed.

On our UNIX boxes, we installed these:

mqm.ams.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Advanced
mqm.base.runtime 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Runtime for
mqm.base.samples 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Samples
mqm.base.sdk 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Base Kit for
mqm.client.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Client for
mqm.ft.agent 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.base 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.logger 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.service 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.tools 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.gskit.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM Global Security Kit for
mqm.java.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Java Client,
mqm.jre.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Java Runtime
mqm.msg.en_US 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Messages -
mqm.server.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Server
mqm.xr.service 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Telemetry
mqm.base.runtime 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Runtime for
mqm.man.en_US.data 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Man Pages -

Then today, IBM says, "hey, send us a big check" that is larger than we expected.

I am wanting to find out if I can simply uninstall these to make it so that our licensing costs do not increase over what they were at mqv7.0.1.*

mqm.ams.rte 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Advanced
mqm.ft.agent 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.base 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.logger 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.service 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.ft.tools 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Managed File
mqm.xr.service 8.0.0.2 COMMITTED IBM WebSphere MQ Telemetry

I am also assuming that other than possibly having to stop the queue manager to uninstall, the MQ consumers will not know we are doing it.

So my 2 questions are:

Is it as simple as uninstalling those items in the second list?
    How intrusive is the uninstall?

Thanks for your attention

I tried to remove just the AMS fileset and got some dependency error.

So it may require a full MQ uninstall and reinstall. Probably a question for a PMR.

Thx ZPAT.

I am in the process of creating that ESR now.

This has to be the clearest, best crafted response to an ESR I have received in quite a while, if not ever. And this is the first iteration.

I asked

Quote:
While executing our migration from MQv7.0.1.* to MQV8.0.0.2 we have
installed the entire contents of the MQv8 TARFILE that we downloaded
from IBM Passport.

We now know that this is an error and want to uninstall those items
that we do not need that cost us additional money.

I believe that I need to uninstall these filesets to resolve our
financial issue.

mqm.ams.rte 8.0.0.2
mqm.ft.agent 8.0.0.2
mqm.ft.base 8.0.0.2
mqm.ft.logger 8.0.0.2
mqm.ft.service 8.0.0.2
mqm.ft.tools 8.0.0.2
mqm.xr.service 8.0.0.2

Can you please answer these questions for me?

1) Is that all I need to do is uninstall those filesets to eliminate
the additional licensing costs we face?

2) Can you tell me how intrusive the uninstall will be on the MQ
consuming applications? Hopefully it is no more that a queue manager
outage.

3) Can you tell me what order I need to uninstall these filesets to
avoid any dependency issues?

The answer was

Quote:
There are 4 separately chargeable components available in IBM MQ V8,
which require their own license:
.
1: The IBM MQ product itself, which provides the enterprise messaging
infrastructure
.
2: IBM MQ Advanced Message Security, which provides policy-based
end-to-end encryption of the message contents

Fileset in AIX: mqm.ams.rte
.
3: IBM MQ Telemetry, which provides lightweight, scalable connectivity
to MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT)-connected clients and devices

Filesets in AIX: mqm.xr.*
.
4: WebSphere Managed File Transfer, which provides combined entitlement
to IBM MQ Managed File Transfer Service, IBM Sterling Connect:Direct
, and IBM Sterling Control Center, as described in Software Announcement
214-038, dated March 11, 2014

Filesets in AIX: mqm.ft.*
.
Thus, if you have bought only the license for the MQ product itself, and
have not bought licenses for the other 3 components, then to avoid
licensing conflicts, do not install the filesets for the other 3
components. If you have installed them by mistake (in the case of
installing all available filesets), then you can uninstall them.

Uninstalling WebSphere Managed File Transfer-

Uninstall these components in this order-

mqm.ft.agent
mqm.ft.base
mqm.ft.logger
mqm.ft.service
mqm.ft.tools
