Hi,

Is it possible to connect to a remote DB2 database without DB2 Client?

We are using IIB10 and the remote DB2 database for our interface to connect is DB2 V9.5 to update some of the tables

As client asked us to see other options of not installing DB2 client in server(if it is mandatory then he will approve to install client but asking for reason why db2 client is needed) where message broker is running(which is windows)Currently we are planning to use JDBC connection to access the remote database and we are using mapping node to update the database.

I did a small poc to update in my local machine where i have db2 server installed and i could able to successfully update the database by using jdbc configurable but when iam trying to connect to remote database using jdbc can i connect without installing db2 client by taking the type 4 drivers from DBA and put in a local drive and give that path to jarsURL and do the necessary update or is it mandatory to install db2 client?

Thanks,

What is the job of the db2 client?

What is the job of the type4 jdbc classes?

Hi ,

for odbc connection we need to have db2 client installed in our broker server to establish connection to remote db2 database and coming to type4 driver as it will comuunicates directly with remote database using socket connection
But while going through some of the posts it was mentioned as
"you need the version of DB2 client that is known to work with the database you are trying to connect to this is true regardless of whether you are using odbc or jdbc "given by expert

Thanks

What is your question about the version of the driver?

What have your own answers told you about your original question?

What is your client actually asking you to do?

Hi,

We need to update some of the tables in a remote DB2 database running on another server.

Our main question is if we are planning to use JDBC connection do we still need DB2 client to be installed in our broker.

Thanks,

You've really got the answers you need.

To be more clear, you can't in general access a database without the appropriate database client or libraries.

You should really spend time asking your client what the real reason is that they're trying to do this.

Certain data types and database functions are not supported by default driver for db2 so you would need a db2 client like db2connect to make a odbc connection.
For JDBC you can use the type 4 jdbc driver.
