When I try to start MQ Explorer today I am getting "IBM Websphere Explorer is already running." (AMQ4574). Yet nothing shows in the task manager for any user. No other sessions are running.

This is on a local PC, to which I am the only one logged in. Version 8.0.0.1

There are a couple of references to this error on this site in 2006, 2007 timeframe but the resolutions don't seem to apply. (the paths and field referenced are not found on my PC)

Things I have tried:

1) Looked for .lock file (and .lck) in path(s) suggested.
2) Searched entire drive for .lock and .lck files
3) Rebooted.
4) Uninstalled MQE, reinstalled, rebooted.

All morning spent trying to find any file that remotely looked like it would lock up things. argh.

Anyone have a current solution to this issue or a place to start looking?

Here was my resolution for this problem:

Generally:
Both the IBM\websphere mq\workspace and the .eclipse folder had to be removed prior to reinstallation to clear up the error.

I'm not sure what file(s) within were the culprit... there are several .lck files in the folder: IBM\WebSphereMQ\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.ibm.mq.explorer.ui

but at least one of them is there all the time, even when Explorer is closed.

There is also a .lock file in:
.eclipse\com.ibm.mq.explorer.ui.rcp.RcpApplication_8.0.0.201410061943_1657387826_win32_win32_x86_64\p2\org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine\profileRegistry\profile.profile
but this seems to always be present also.

Regardless it took both of these folders being deleted (and recreated by a reinstall) for Explorer to start successfully.

What threw this for a loop was that the original installation placed the IBM and .eclipse folders on my local drive at c:\users\<username>\IBM and c:\users\<username>\.eclipse. The reinstalls however placed these folders on the network share linked to my AD profile (e.g. \\domain.local\users\<username>\IBM)

I never thought to look off-machine for these folders (since I had seen them on c: ) until I started Explorer with the console visible using "strmqcfg -x" and observed the new location.

Sorry for the verbosity herein, but hopefully it will help someone that gets hit with this aggravating problem.
