Hi Guys,
When doing support work, I sometimes need to do:
1. remove a single message from a queue, say poisonous message
2. transfer a message from a DLQ back to normal queue
Just would like to know what tools/utility is commonly used for above purpose?
Thanks in advance !

MO71 is very good for this purpose and easier to use as a GUI (in fact both were written by Paul Clarke).
MO71 was an IBM support pac and is now a vendor product, but you can still try the older version for free.

Please have a look at MQ Visual Edit. It can do that plus a whole lot more.

Not forgetting that there is a supplied dead-letter handler supplied with the product.
EricL, I suggest you push the application owners to include poison-message handling logic within their application, which is where it properly belongs. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

add supportpac MS0P to your MQExplorer if you are using that to connect to your queue manager _________________ Michael

Hi guys,
Thanks so much for ALL your response.
I installed MO71 on my laptop and verifying it, so far so good as I can delete/copy/move messages around.
Just one question, I have a very big q, with over 20,000 messages in it, but looks like MQ71 has limit to open only first 10,000 messages, though there is "Display Range", but when specify a big number, say 11000 in it, it only show 10,000 messages.
Question is, how to jump to message after 10000?
Thanks !

qload (MO03) is another tool you should get familiar with because you might only have the command line at some point. Search this site and you will find discussions about how to unload/copy a queue and chop the file up for chunked loading/reloading.

Eric,
Have you tried displaying a range like 20000,30000 ?
It rings a bell that earlier versions of MO71 had a limitation on how many messages it would display but I thought you could specify whatever range you like. In the Preferences Dialog - in the Browse Tab - you can specify the maximum number of messages you wish to be able to browse.
If you are using the free version of MO71 there may well be some restrictions, it's a long time since I've used a version that old.
If you would like to try out the latest version then just send an email to support@mqgem.com and I'd be happy to send you a trial licence. There are quite a number of new features in the queue browsing area.
Regards,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke

Thanks Grand and Paul.
I've tried a range of 20000 and above in Preferences Dialog, but again messages only show up to 10000, so think there is limition there.
Anyway, I've requested a latest trial version of MO71 through email to support@mqgem.com, let's see how's the latest version work
Thanks guys.

Just as a thought check with Paul that the 10,000 limit you see is not tied to the default max uncommitted transactions... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

No, this is browsing.....nothing to do with transactions. However, if you wanted to move all the messages to another queue then you would be limited by the max uncomitted messages. MO71 will do it in bunches of messages.
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke
