Because AIX & Solaris don't use the same flavour of Unix.

The different install paths are true of all software, not just WMQ.

But at IBM MQ 7.1 and up, you can choose to install it anywhere you like. Here is something you can consider for how the file systems should be used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard.
