Hi,
I've been queried as to whether AMS (MQ Advanced Message Security) can be removed from a particular host to reduce license fees.
I actually didn't know it was installed and have never had any experience of it but I've confirmed that it is installed:
C:\Documents and Settings\adamskeg>dspmqver -p 128
Name: WebSphere MQ Advanced Message Security
Version: 7.5.0.2
Level: p750-002-130627
BuildType: IKAP - (Production)
This is on Win 2003.
I've confirmed there are no policies.
C:\Documents and Settings\adamskeg>dspmqspl -m xyz
No policies found.
Which, from my reading so far suggests it's not in use but I'm not sure it doesn't have other hooks here and there.
What's the easy way to tell (apart from remove it and see what happens) ? _________________ Adam. |

Adam?
AFAIK, AMS is now bundled in WMQ 7.5 at no extra charge, though you should confirm this with your IBM sales rep. If its not in use then it should be possible to uninstall this component.
To actually use AMS, 2 queues need to be created, check if they exist SYSTEM.PROTECTION.* _________________ Glenn |

That's not what I was told. AMS, MFT/FTE and MQTT Server are bundled with WMQ v7.5, but if you install them, then you need to pay extra fees to IBM (on top of WMQ fees).
I would definitely check with your IBM rep.

The queues you mention do exist but are empty
QUEUE(SYSTEM.PROTECTION.ERROR.QUEUE) TYPE(QLOCAL)
CURDEPTH(0)
AMQ8409: Display Queue details.
QUEUE(SYSTEM.PROTECTION.POLICY.QUEUE) TYPE(QLOCAL)
CURDEPTH(0)
That there are no policies matches up with the dspmqspl output already seen. No policies == not in use you are saying.
Bundled? Not so much.

This query has come from our license management section so we must be paying for it right now. Indeed this confirms it:

The licensing really depends on whether you are paying for MQ Advanced or standard MQ. Check with your IBM Rep who has the final say, but I believe with MQ Advanced this might just be a nominal (low) fee. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
