hi, i am trying to study and understand the difference between set chlauth and authrec with respect to channel security.

From the docs , chlauth can be used to define access rights to IP addresses, while set authrec on objtype(channel) cannot. set authrec on channels is used for finer grained channel permissions , am i correct to say this? what else is the difference between chlauth and authrec objtype(channel)? thanks

Typically if you are using SET AUTHREC, you could just as well set the same permission using setmqaut...

You cannot set channel auth records using setmqaut...

Have fun

I will say that CHLAUTH and AUTHREC are different objects.

But then Morag will explain that neither of them are objects, they're properties or something else, and that's why you use the SET command rather than DEFINE/ALTER/DELETE

But regardless of that, they're entirely different things that control entirely different behavior.

CHLAUTH records control who is allowed to connect to a specific channel, and what rules are applied when someone does connect.

AUTHREC records control what privileges a given profile has - what a given user or group is allowed to access and change.

It's the difference between a login prompt and file system permissions.
