We have a requirement to develop a new java package to receive message from MQ asynchronously, using Spring framework which will be deployed in tomcat.

After looking into Sping JMS(MessageListenerContainer) and Websphere MQ classes for JMS, I feel that both provides similar functionalities.

So, I am unable to conclude the approach to choose between Spring JMS and Websphere MQ classes for JMS.

I searched on the web to find comparisons between both but could not decide between the two.

It will be really helpful if i could get suggestions on the comparison - pros and cons as well as performance impact of using them and some insight into which one i could choose.

Thanks.

Whichever is easier for you and you are more familiar with. After all it is you who will have to maintain it.

Thank you for your reply.

I have another query.

We have expertise in "Websphere MQ classes for JMS". But when we deliver the product to our client, we need to tell them the reason for going with that approach instead of spring jms.

And in case, spring JMS will have higher performance and advantages than WMQ JMS, we would like to work on gaining expertise and go with that approach.

Can you please advise.

Ask yourself this question.

Do the Spring classes give me EVERYTHING I will possibly need when it comes to functionality around the message.

By this I mean, can I say, for example
set an expiry time on a message?
How does spring handle request/reply operations?

If you are going to need more control over the message properties than the spring classes can give you then the answer is obvious.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.
